An old heating oil storage tank is the culprit behind the digging that’s about to happen in the lot beside the Interior Savings Barriere Branch.
“Years after acquiring the property where we built our Barriere Branch, Interior Savings discovered an old, heating oil storage tank buried there,” said Gene Creelman, Interior Savings vice president of Marketing and Communications. “We removed the tank and, after confirming it had leaked, began the process of testing the soil.”
The soil testing has identified an area of land impacted on a neighbouring property, and Creelman says that as early as Sept. 6, Interior Savings will begin digging up and replacing that soil.
“While heating oil storage tanks are not that uncommon, this was an unforeseen problem we inherited with the property,” said Creelman “But, as a responsible, community-minded organization, Interior Savings is committed to doing the right thing for our community and the environment by working with our neighbour to clean it up.”
