White Rock boil-water advisory lifted

Two rounds of testing confirm no presence of bacteria, city staff say.

Firefighting efforts during Sunday's Five Corners blaze resulted in a water shortage and boil-water advisory in White Rock.

Firefighting efforts during Sunday's Five Corners blaze resulted in a water shortage and boil-water advisory in White Rock.

The boil-water advisory in White Rock has been lifted.

City staff confirmed residents and businesses were in the clear to consume the water around 10:30 Wednesday morning.

The advisory had been in place since noon Sunday, when efforts to fight a large fire at White Rock’s Five Corners drained the city’s water reserves.

Staff said concerns that the conditions could create negative pressure in the water lines – which could  result in bacterial contamination entering the system – prompted the advisory.

Two rounds of sample tests taken over the past two days showed no indication of bacteria in the system, city staff said.

“We got the second set of results this morning, and we passed those onto Fraser Health and they gave us the all-clear to lift the advisory,” Bob Ambardar, acting director of municipal operations said.

According to a city release, residents and businesses are being encouraged to flush all water-using fixtures for at least one minute to ensure water isn’t cloudy; run cold-water faucets and fountains for at least one minute; drain and flush pop and ice-making machines in refrigerators; run water softeners through a regeneration cycle; drain and re-fill hot-water tanks set below 45 degrees C; and change all pre-treatment filters.
