Work to widen the 208 Street overpass to four lanes is now ramping up.
Construction of the 208 Street overpass widening project starts this month and is expected to be complete in spring 2018.
Construction will occur along 208 Street between 84 Avenue and 88 Avenue, with varying traffic impacts, including single-lane alternating traffic, and temporary road closures, mostly happening overnight, said Gord Swystun, from the Township’s Transportation department. Traffic disruption is expected but we are trying to do everything we can to reduce the impact on users of 208 Street,” said Swystun. “Ample notice will be given for any road closures,” he said.
The $5.2 million project will include bike lanes, landscaping and street lights.
The contract for the work has been awarded to Eurovia British Columbia Inc.
Widening of 208 Street has long been a request of residents of Willoughby, Langley’s fastest growing neighbourhood. During rush hour, 208 Street sees major traffic congestion, and widening the road was a municipal election issue.
Currently, most of 208 Street is a two-lane road.
