It’s been a crazy weekend for residents in Edgewood.
In the evening hours of Jan. 28 Nakusp RCMP were called to a residence in the community after receiving a complaint that a neighbour who was upset over a loud party took matters into his own hands.
A resident was hosting a party on his property when a neighbour approached with a chainsaw. This neighbour proceeded to cut a hydro pole which provided power to the residence.
Those attending to party physically intervened, stopping the man from cutting down the pole.
Nakusp RCMP attended and apprehended the man who was taken to the hospital in Nakusp where he received treatment for non life-threatening injuries he sustained as a result of the altercation with the neighbours.
The man was brought before a Judicial Justice of the Peace and held in custody. His next scheduled court appearance February 1, 2017, in Nelson, BC.
“Crown Counsel will ultimately determine the appropriate charges,” said Cpl. Janelle Shoihet, a media relations officer with the RCMP. “Among the charges that may be considered are assault with a weapon, mischief, uttering threats, but until he appears tomorrow we cannot confirm.”
Things got even more interesting in the Edgewood community when RCMP were called back out on Jan. 30.
The home of the man who was arrested had been destroyed by a fire. One cat died in the fire, while two other cats and a dog survived.
The cause of the fire is unknown and police are continuing to investigate.
It is unknown at this point in time if the two incidents are related.
“It is too early to say, the investigation is in the very early stages,” said Cpl. Shoihet. “At this point we cannot link the two incidents.”
Given the time line, investigators will consider this as a possible investigative avenue. Both the Kootenay Boundary Regional General Investigative Section and the Nakusp RCMP are continuing to investigate both incidents.
Anyone with information are asked to contact the Nakusp RCMP at (250)265-3677 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
