Wildsight Golden is gearing up for Earth Day on April 22 with a virtual event.
Typically, Wildsight Golden would celebrate Earth day by having a group garbage pick up and potluck.
With in-person Earth Day celebrations once again not possible this year, Wildsight Golden still has plans in place for an event that they hope the whole community will participate in.
According to Wildsight, Earth Day is the most celebrated environmental event in the world. Each year more than 6 million Canadians join 1 billion people in 170 countries, staging events and projects to address local environmental issues.
Instead of doing a group garbage pick-up, Wildsight Golden has created a family friendly scavenger hunt, which will also include picking up a bit of garbage to do your part for the environment.
The scavenger hunt is good for children and adults as well and will test your outdoor skills and maybe teach some new ones.
The scavenger hunt can be downloaded and printed from the Wildsight Golden website, from the Earth Day event page.
All you need to do is complete the tasks and send an email to Golden@wildsight.ca letting them know you participated and your name will be entered into a draw.
There are two prizes to be given away, both are original paintings submitted for the local plant walk on the Rotary Trail. You must send your email by April 21.
The draw will occur at the online event on April 22 at 7 p.m.
The virtual event will also feature a recorded video of the first recipient of the Ellen Zimmerman Award, which will be presented to an individual to celebrate and support their outstanding contributions to environmental conservation and education in the Upper Columbia Region.
The virtual event will be a celebration of the Earth.

Earth Day is not just about events, it’s also about taking individual action. There’s so much you can do. It’s as simple as reduce – reuse – recycle. Clean up and help restore a degraded area; share your nature knowledge with others; advocate to decision makers on an issue such old growth logging.
