There may be no Cowichan Lake Days this June.
An important meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, will decide the fate this year of the long-running celebration.
The problem, the crowd learned at the Cowichan Lake Chamber of Commerce AGM on March 7, is the perennial one of finding enough volunteers to organize it.
Lake Cowichan’s Kin club folks, who did the job last year, are apparently unable to do it this year and if no one else comes forward, the event simply will not happen.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at the Lions Den hall at 131 Oak Lane.
The possibility of losing the annual celebration added a depressing note to an otherwise upbeat chamber meeting.
However, there is still considerable enthusiasm for holding a parade, particularly as this is Lake Cowichan’s 75th anniversary year. The people organizing that event — the 75 and Beyond group — announced that if no one else can take on the parade, they would be willing to do that job.
So, if you have ideas or time to spare to help plan and run Lake Days, this is the time to step up. Mark that meeting on your calendar and then share your thoughts on the future of the festival.
