An investigation by police into a report of a possible violation regarding civic elections in Williams Lake has determined that no violation occurred.
“On Thursday, Oct. 11, North District Regional GIS, Williams Lake RCMP, responded to a report of a possible violation of the Local Government Act regarding the upcoming civic elections,” said Cpl. Madonna Saunderson, North District media relations Tuesday.

Saunderson said elections officials were made aware of a candidate campaigning at one of the Special Voting Opportunities (SVO) locations at a Williams Lake seniors care facility and believed it may have been a violation because candidates are not permitted to be in attendance or campaigning at polling stations on voting days.
“Police spoke to the residents at the facility and after a comprehensive review of the current legislation governing municipal elections in B.C. and information obtained from the residents, it was determined that no violation had occurred as any campaign activities conducted had concluded prior to the opening of the SVO and voting proceedings had not yet commenced,” Saunderson said.
