Power was out in parts of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows due to downed wires after a wind storm last night.
Environment Canada issued a wind warning for much of B.C.’s southwest coast earlier today, predicting gusts of up to 90 km/h.
“Strong winds across Victoria, Vancouver and the Fraser Valley have left 28,000 customers without power,” according to B.C. Hydro.
“Crews are dispatched in all affected areas and will be working throughout the night to restore all customers as quickly as possible.”

Power was out in parts of Silver Valley, and in east Maple Ridge, some areas of Pitt Meadows, mostly due to fallen trees on wires.
Several visitors to Golden Ears Provincial Park were stuck behind its entrance gates because of downed trees in the area, according to Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue.
Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge, between 216th and Laity streets, was closed in both directions due to downed power lines, according to the City of Maple Ridge.

Sections of 284th and 286th streets were also closed.
Power was restored to all parts of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows by morning.
On March 10, another powerful wind storm left tens of thousands of residents and businesses without electricity across southwestern B.C. and closed schools.
Most of Pitt Meadows south of the Lougheed Highway were without power, some 6,000 customers, and there were about a dozen outages in Maple Ridge, the largest affecting 3,100 customers north of Dewdney Trunk Road to Silver Valley, between 232nd and 216th streets.
