Environment Canada warns a significant low pressure system approaching from the northwest will cause a squall line to develop over the South Cariboo late this afternoon.
The squall will then intensify as it crosses the South Thompson and Shuswap regions early this evening.
Southwesterly winds of 30 km/h gusting to 50 this afternoon will shift abruptly to northwest and increase to 40 gusting to 70 along the squall line this evening.
The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.
