Environment Canada is warning Nanaimo area residents of strong winds forecast for the region that could cause damage.
The wind warning was issued this morning, for eastern parts of Vancouver Island, including areas spanning from Duncan to Nanaimo, Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay and Courtenay to Campbell River.
Strong winds are expected, or are occurring, and southeast winds will rise to 70 km/h gusting to 90 km/h for areas near the water, said Environment Canada. It is due to an intense front crossing the south coast today and winds are expected to subside this afternoon.
Environment Canada warns that there could be damage to properties, including to windows and roofs and there is the potential that loose objects may be tossed and tree branches may break.
B.C. Ferries has cancelled a 1 p.m. ferry sailing from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay due to the adverse weather conditions.
