Winds knocking out power across the Nanaimo region

More than 12,000 residences affected across B.C. Hydro's Vancouver Island North area

Stormy weather is knocking down power lines in the area.

B.C. Hydro is dealing with power outages across the region. There are several outages now in north Nanaimo affecting about 10,000 residents.

“We have several large outages now showing in the Nanaimo area and crews will be responding. For the latest outage updates from our crews, check on our mobile site and we’ll continue to update as they arrive and assess,” noted B.C. Hydro in a social media post.

B.C. Hydro customers can find updated information at www.bchydro.com.

According to a social media post from the City of Nanaimo, Oliver Woods Community Centre is without power and programs there may be affected.

B.C. Ferries cancelled a number of sailings this morning and early afternoon, but sailings have now resumed as scheduled.
