On Monday afternoon, April 17, there was a terrible wind storm in Vavenby that took out the electrical power for part of the town.

Graffunder Trailer Park, which is next to Highway 5, had trees that got blown down, landing on a minimum of seven buildings. One owner had a tree land on his addition and another on his workshop. Apparently there were places with worse damage than this.

Owner Ed Peebles took down some fallen trees after the storm and on Friday was taking down more trees that could be dangerous.

New teacher at school

Vavenby Primary School has a new teacher. Mrs. Paige Coxon is from Kamloops and will be teaching here until the end of the school year.

Coxon just got off of maternity leave so is commuting back and forth from Kamloops.

Coxon graduated from TRU two years ago and was hired right away. She has always taught split classes so is not finding her new posting difficult.

She likes the Vavenby class and thinks the students are great.

Last chances for darts and crib

The final sessions for darts and crib before the summer break will be on the last Tuesday and the last Thursday of April.

They are both held at Vavenby Community Hall, beginning at 7 p.m. Cost is $3 for the evening.
