Hundreds of homes in Mission were without power Monday morning, mostly due to adverse weather, according to BC Hydro.
Most of the outages happened east of Mission, while a couple of dozen homes in the district were affected.
Mission school board trustee Shelley Carter, who lives on the east side of Hatzic Lake, said three transformers between “blew” last night between Hatzic Lake and Dewdney and “lit up the sky.”
The Carter home was without power for about an hour, but others in the area were still without electricity Monday morning.
The willow trees about 30 feet away from the house were also damaged when freezing rain fell in the area over night.
“I had to wake up my husband late last night to move some of our vehicles as branches were coming down all over,” said Carter.
According to BC Hydro’s website, power is expected to be restored to all homes by 4 p.m. Monday.
