A 23-year-old woman has been charged in relation to an incident that occurred in Mission on Nov. 23, 2018 when a baby was discovered in a dumpster.
At that time, Mission RCMP responded to the 33600 block of Prentis Avenue after receiving a call that a newborn had been found in a dumpster close to the Heritage Park Childcare Centre.
The baby was rushed to the hospital, where she remained in critical condition until Nov. 29, when she died.
A 21-year-old woman was arrested shortly afterwards and was released. No charges were filed at that time.
Charges were recently sworn in court. The woman has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and “failing to perform legal duty to provide necessaries.”
The charges are now working their way through the court system.
