A Hope woman is in stable condition after being hit by a vehicle in the 300 block of Wallace Street last Thursday.
Lucille Toy was crossing the street in front of Memorial Park at about 2:30 p.m. when she was struck. After receiving notification about the accident, her son Galen found her lying in the middle of the crosswalk.
Hope RCMP said there’s no indication of speed, but rather the man driving didn’t see her in time to stop. He remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Galen said his mother suffered a broken hip and multiple fractures to her pelvis.
She was transferred to the orthopedic ward at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster and has since undergone hip surgery.
“It’s kind of one step at a time in terms of where we go from here,” said Galen. “She’s pretty tough and determined. On behalf of me and the family, thank you so much to the community for their concern and support.”
