Two women out for a walk alerted police July 30 after encountering a flasher in Cowichan Bay.

The suspect is described as a First Nations male, around 50 years old, with dark hair. He was wearing a light coloured shirt and shorts.

The pedestrians had seen the man on a park bench near the 4600 block of Kennedy Lane.

“Initially the complainants walked by the alleged offender and noticed him looking at the view, but when they looked back at him, he was exposing his genitals and appeared to be masturbating,” confirmed North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP spokesperson Const. Amron Christensen.

The witnesses left the area right away but didn’t report the incident to police until the following day.

The suspect was not located.

Those with information related to this incident are encouraged to contact the detachment at 250-748-5522 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

“The public is encouraged to take basic safety precautions when out for walks or runs,” Christensen said.

“That includes: walking in pairs, not wearing headphones, and remaining aware of your surroundings.”
