Women the target of downtown assaults

RCMP are investigating a series of assaults involving sex trade workers, all linked to one intersection in downtown Chilliwack.

Chilliwack RCMP have issued a warning to sex trade workers frequenting the area of Nowell Street and Princess Avenue after a series of assaults.

The first happened Feb. 8 when a female victim was allegedly attacked by a man near that intersection.

He took off when she called out of for help.

In the last week of February, police say another woman was picked up by a man at Nowell and Princess, taken to another spot and sexually assaulted.

On March 9, a third victim told RCMP she was assaulted while on a date.

Police believe one man is responsible for at least two of the attacks, and they believe there may be more incidents that have gone unreported.

The RCMP say they are in close contact with streetwalkers and support groups, asking them to stay vigilant.

Anyone who may have been victimized, or has information, is asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers (anonymously) at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
