Woodward calls for slowdown in Brookswood neighbourhood planning

The motion is up for debate at the Nov. 19 council meeting.

Langley Township council will waste no time debating Brookswood development at the first full council meeting since October’s elections.

Newly-elected Councillor Eric Woodward has put forward a motion calling for a change to neighbourhood planning in Brookswood and Fernridge.

The new Official Community Plan for the area, passed last year, created four neighbourhoods, each of which is to receive a detailed neighbourhood plan that will guide development.

The Township was to move forward with creating three of them simultaneously.

Woodward’s motion calls for one neighbourhood to be planned at a time, starting with Booth or Fernridge.

The motion cites local concerns including pace of development, infrastructure, the possible displacement of mobile home park residents, and a possible “major roads crisis.”

The motion will be up for debate at the council meeting on Monday, Nov. 19.
