Victoria Fire department responded to a gas leak at the 1000-block of Tolmie Avenue a little before 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
A Fortis crew was on site attending the leak.

Neighbour Darren Greg who lives next to the construction said he could smell the gas from around corner as he returned home.
“Call before you dig, please, call before you dig,” said Greg. “People with kids, people with dogs, are living in the neighbourhood. And if you don’t call before you dig people like me come home from work and it smells like gasoline in the entire neigbhourhod. I smelled gas before I came around the corner (from Quadra), that’s a half a block.”

A Fortis spokesperson confirmed damage to the gas line was caused by third party damage but the leak under control and expected to be fixed shortly after.
