Yale Secondary School students chose to give back during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students from the school’s Leadership class received Responsive Neighbourhood Small Grants to connect with people in the community during this challenging time.
Some of the projects students completed were putting together crafts for kindergarteners, delivering gift baskets with loads of treats to Abbotsford’s first responders, delivering flowers with card and message to residents at a local senior care facility, put together care packages to staff at an elementary school for World Teacher Day, purchasing items that were given to Cyrus Centre and making do-it-yourself t-shirt kits which were given to local Grade 1 students.
Students received a lot of positive feedback for the projects.
A family member of one of the residents in the senior centre who has not seen their loved ones in seven months said, “Grandpa was over the moon with the card he got and was overly touched by it.”
School representatives stated that Yale students thoroughly enjoyed this project which gave back to the community.
