The Abbotsford school district has received $110,000 to help with heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) consolidation for Yale Secondary through the provincial government’s Carbon Neutral Capital Program (CNCP).
“These upgrades are an important part of our commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the province,” Abbotsford South MLA Darryl Plecas announced Friday.
“Yale Secondary is already engaged in protecting the environment through their school recycling program, which is one of the best in B.C. I’m sure that parents, teachers, and students alike will be happy to hear about these improvements.”
Abbotsford is one of 24 B.C. school districts sharing $5 million for energy projects like lighting upgrades, boiler replacements, solar panels and electric vehicles under the CNCP.
School districts were asked to submit proposals to the ministry of education in November. These proposals were then evaluated on greenhouse gas emission reductions and operational cost savings, along with the level of contributions available for the project from the district and energy service partners.
