Agora Employment Essentials Inc. in Abbotsford has received $190,000 in funding from the federal government’s Skills Link program to help youth overcome barriers to employment.

The announcement was made Tuesday by Abbotsford MP and Minister of International Trade, Ed Fast.

Skills Link is part of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy (YES).

“Through the Youth Employment Strategy, we are helping young Canadians develop the skills and gain the experience they need to get jobs now as they prepare for the workforce of tomorrow,” said Fast

Agora is owned and operated by the MCC and participants attend workshops that focus on both life and employability skills, including resume writing, career planning and effective communication.

John Dawson, general manager of Agora said the funding will allow for a “six-month extension of what the program has been doing for the past six years.”
