The Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) is striving to empower and educate youth in the area through the Youth Leadership Summit in Kimberley this April.
The summit will see over 100 youth aged 14 to 18 from all around the Columbia Basin come together to meet new people, grow as leaders and develop new skills. The event will take place on April 24 to 26, and local youth are being encouraged to apply for the summit.
“Basin youth are making positive impacts in their communities, and we hope this weekend inspires them to think big and continue their great work,” said Michelle d’Entremont, manager, delivery of benefits for the CBT. “The summit is a way for youth to collaborate and network as they continue to build valuable life skills that will follow them into the future as they strengthen their leadership skills and take action.”
According to the CBT, the summit is “an action-packed and interactive weekend with sessions that will support youth in finding their voice and taking action on issues that matter to them.”
Participants will have the opportunity to meet new people, grow as community leaders and have a whole lot of fun in the process.
The youth delegates will also have the opportunity to provide input on CBT’s strategic priorities during a special sessions called Our Trust, Our Future 2020.
“The Basin Youth Network was launched in 2016 to support the changing needs of youth communities, and it is amazing to see what has been accomplished since its inception,” said Mike Kent, regional coordinator for the Basin Youth Network. “Youth are actively engaged in their communities and truly making positive changes in the communities where they live. The summit will connect over 100 youth to learn new skills and plan for the future.”
Successful applicants to the summit should be comfortable in fast-paced environments, be excited to interact and engage with new people and be willing to share a hotel room with other youth. The youth who are selected to attend the event will be subsidized to take part in the summit at no cost.
For anyone interested in applying, the application and extra information can be found at Ourtrust.org/youthsummit.
