Alison passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 23, 2019 at Langley Memorial Hospital after a long battle with Leukemia.
She was born December 5, 1954 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents Albert Penner and Ann Krahn. She is survived by her siblings Dorothy, Jennifer and Raymond; her children Tara and Bianca; her grandchildren Sydney, Addison and Paisley; and her former husband Gary.
Alison dedicated over twenty years to a career that she loved as a registered nurse at Surrey Memorial hospital. She was always kind, giving and thoughtful. Her generosity reached beyond her family and friends, as she was involved in several charitable organizations and went on her dream trip to Africa where she worked at an orphanage sponsored by Seeds of Hope.
Alison was passionate about horses, getting her first one, Tamerlane, at the age of twelve, and she remained an avid member of the horse community throughout her life. She loved dogs and could often be found on a forest path or at the beach with her canine companion, Brando. Together they won numerous awards for nose-work which was a new-found hobby of hers.
Alison’s deepest love was for her family and she cherished the time that she spent with her grandchildren. She also valued the connections that she had through her church and she took great comfort from her faith in the Lord as she faced her recent challenges. Before she left us, her siblings gathered around and shared memories of her as a free-spirited hippy with a twinkle in her eye and a huge heart. Alison will be greatly missed by all those who knew her as mom, nana, sister and friend.
A celebration of life honouring Alison will be held at 1pm, Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Pacific Community Church – 5337 180th St, Surrey BC. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Seeds of Hope, Children’s Ministry on her behalf.
