DR. PATRICK JAMES KAVANAGH

DR. PATRICK JAMES KAVANAGH died peacefully on January 15, 2017 with family around him. He is survived by his wife Doris (62 years married), five children, Michael, Jerry, Laura, Anne, and Mary, and 15 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers and infant grandson. Pat practiced medicine for 50 years and it was not only what he did but who he was. As a thoughtful and caring doctor he was universally respected and admired by his patients and colleagues. He was dedicated to his family, a proud and caring father, and a committed, loving husband to Doris, who he described as the wind beneath his wings. He had many friends captured by his easy smile, intelligence, and caring nature, and even those who knew him only in passing spoke easily to the impact he had. He craved adventure and travel, and enjoyed solitary pursuits. His love of fishing and golfing was unsurpassed, and he sought out opportunities to explore a variety of experiences through travel and rural community living. Following education in the Maritimes at Mount Allison and Dalhousie, he began practicing medicine in Nova Scotia, moved to Creston BC in 1967 where he remained for 20 years. His practice included experiences in Australia, China and Bella Bella, then to Uranium City where he served a number of communities in the north for just over 5 years. He and Doris then moved to Invermere where they have lived for the past 25 years, with Pat performing locums and vacation relief for local physicians until he ceased practicing in 2009. The memorial service is at: Christ Church Trinity, Invermere 11am, Thursday January 19 There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service and a “wake” (open house) at: Columbia Garden Village from 2-4pm.
