In Loving Memory ~
Gordon Recknagel (87) passed away Nov. 8, 2023 in Kamloops after a brief illness.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Henry (Hugo) and Sarah Recknagel, siblings Elmer Recknagel and Doreen (Paul) Herchak and beloved wife Betty in 2012.
He is survived by his children Martina Martens, Maureen (Darelle) Mior and Martin (Alita) Recknagel.
Grandchildren Jennifer, Alyssa (Dave), Dakota, Kristopher, Cody and Aiden. He was thrilled to be Great Grandpa to Chloe, Seth, Phoenix, Hunter and Logan.
Also survived by his brother Robert Recknagel of Forest Grove.
Gordon worked hard his whole life. After losing his right arm in a work accident at the age of 17, he attempted working in an office job in New Westminster, but quickly realized that wasn’t the life for him. That started a life working outside; from working on log booms on the Fraser River to logging all over B.C.
He was always proud of the fact he was the one called on the to do the dangerous falling in fire zones, during fire season.
In the late 70’s and early 80’s he owned and operated a shake and shingle mill in Agassiz at Ruby Creek.
Gordon and Betty moved to Lac La Hache in 1983. Always avid gardeners, they started a commercial organic garden that supplied many of the resorts in the area. He was also seen around the area haying, during the hot summer months.
Eventually dementia made it so Gordon had to move from his “Little piece of heaven” on Timothy Lake road to Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff on 2 South who treated him like their family. Special thanks to the recreation staff, who went out of their way to included Dad in all their activities.
Rest in Peace, Dad.
