In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our family’s matriarch, Grace Verna Eileen Charlton, at the age of 92. Grace was born in McCord, Saskatchewan, the 9th of Milton and Freda Peterson’s eleven children. She grew up on her family’s farm and went on to attend nursing school in Edmonton, graduating 2nd in her class in 1953 from the Royal Alexandra Hospital. As a young RN, she worked for several years in both Edmonton and Vancouver and fondly retold stories of her nursing days throughout her life. Her time in British Columbia would set the course of the rest of her life as she met and married her adoring husband, Ian. They quickly started their family and welcomed their 5 children, eventually settling in Maple Ridge, BC, after Ian opened his Pacific 66 service station.
Although their time together was cut short when Ian passed away in 1991, Grace filled her remaining years with family, friends, and activities that brought her great joy. She was the consummate hostess, a world traveler, a skilled bridge player, a steady golfer, and most importantly, a formidable woman, Mom, Gram, Great Gram, and friend who we will miss every day.
Grace will be remembered by her 5 children, Jane (Len) Ganz, Janice Bradshaw, Robert (Corinna), Peter (Myrna), and Scott (Lenette), 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and the many members of the extended Peterson and Charlton families. She is predeceased by her parents, Milton and Freda, husband, Ian, siblings, and her son-in law, Michael.
A private family service will be held. May her memory be a blessing.Obituary-
