In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jure George Kegaly, aged 86.
He is survived by his loving wife Beverley, his children Anthony, Michelle and granddaughter Cali.
He also leaves his brother Gabrijel and family, as well as his sister Ana and family in Croatia, including numerous nieces and nephews in Croatia.
Also surviving George is his brother- in-law Jim McConnell (Sandy) and family.
George arrived in Canada in 1960 and worked for a gold company in the Yukon for a short time before coming to Nanaimo, working in construction. He married Beverley in 1966 and found employment at Harmac where he worked for over 30 years.
George never met a “stranger”. He was always so friendly, kind and outgoing that he made friends wherever he went. He was hard working, and ready to lend a hand to those who needed help. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He and Bev built a good life together over their 57 year marriage.
George kept busy with his many talents. He was a passionate gardener, creating beautiful hanging baskets every summer and tending to a wonderful vegetable garden. Friends and neighbours were appreciative of his garden “gifts”. He took pride in his homemade wine, and delicious homemade smoked sausages and ribs.
He was also an enthusiastic bocce player, and for many years he and his Croatian friends would meet weekends for bocce and BBQ. He always enjoyed a good party.
The family would like to give special thanks to his doctor, Dr. I. Dodo for his compassionate care, his support and friendship. They are also grateful to Dr. K. Park, his respiratory therapist, and the Palliative care nurses and doctors who provided kindness and care during his illness.
Please join us in celebrating George’s life with a service at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Nanaimo on Tuesday November 21 at 1:30 pm. Reception to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes you to donate to Palliative Care or Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
