Marjorie Marian Winnifred Adams

September 10, 1931 – November 25, 2023
In loving memory ~
Marjorie was born in Victoria, B.C. on September 10, 1931 and passed away in Vancouver, B.C. on November 25, 2023. She was a descendant of two pioneering Vancouver Island families, the Ledinghams and the Hoggans. Her mother was Ida Belle Trew. Her father, Wilfred Ledingham, worked at the B.C. Electric power plant in Jordan River, where Marjorie grew up. She recounted many memories of her carefree childhood playing with her sister there, including waiting for Mrs. Kirby and her dog-drawn milk cart to arrive. Eventually, Marjorie and her family moved to Oak Bay, where she attended high school. In 1950, she and her parents emigrated to New Zealand, where they lived until 1952.
After moving back to Victoria, Marjorie met Dimitri Adams, a carpenter, sailor, boat builder and logger and they married in 1954. Dimitri built them a house in Cadboro Bay, where they lived with their two children until briefly travelling to New Zealand during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. On returning to Canada, Marjorie and her family settled in North Vancouver and then Nanaimo. She and her family spent numerous happy summers cruising the Gulf Islands on their sailboats. Marjorie worked for Sears and then the Royal Bank in Nanaimo for many years. In retirement, she returned to school, obtaining her high school diploma and then a fine arts degree from Malaspina College. She was a talented artist who produced award-winning and original pieces. After Dimitri passed away in 1995, she moved to Richmond and then Sechelt. She had many beloved dogs over the years and enjoyed hours walking and exploring with them. Marjorie was diagnosed with dementia in 2014 and spent the last 9 years of her life in care facilities. The family is deeply grateful to all the care providers on the third floor of Purdy Pavilion at UBC for their devoted and loving care of Marjorie during her time there.
She is survived by her son Mike (Jenny), daughter Robin (Bruce), grandchildren Jamie, Laura and Matt (Regina), Jenny’s son Mike, and great-grandchildren Clayton and Coen.
