It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of our wife and mother Mary Kruger. Mary passed away peacefully December 3, 2023, after a short stay at North Island Hospital Comox Valley. Mary was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1937 to parents Dr. Jack and Ivanelle Sproule. She attended St. Patrick’s High School and received her teaching certificate and BA from Lakehead University. Mary and Barry, her husband of 49 years, met and married in Thunder Bay.
Mary is survived by her husband Barry Kruger daughter Catherine Cowan and grandchildren Mitchell Platt and Morgan Platt.
Mary enjoyed a rewarding career as an elementary school teacher with the Catholic teacher’s board for 38 years in Thunder Bay. Upon Mary’s retirement she and Barry packed up and moved to a warmer climate where they made their home in Courtenay, B.C. In Courtenay Mary and Barry enjoyed time with friends and family in the community. Mary was a long-term member of the Catholic Women’s League and active in the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 19th at 11:00 at Christ the King Church celebrated by Fr. David Hogman. A reception will follow the mass in the church hall.
