In Loving Memory ~
Phil was born in Woking, England on May 29, 1940. Shortly after, his parents moved their family to Montreal, Quebec to escape the war. After V-Day in 1945, they moved back to England but in 1948, the family moved to Oakville, Ontario and later to Vancouver.
In 1960, Phil joined the Bank of Montreal and the next year, was transferred to the branch in Courtenay BC, followed by the Royal Oak branch near Sydney.
In the fall of 1963, Phil was transferred to Terrace. It was there where he met a beautiful young lady named Marylin Brownlie, who became the love of his life.
In 1964 Phil was transferred again, this time to the Maillardville branch near New Westminister. But in 1965 Phil left the bank to return to Terrace to Marylin. Phil and Marylin were married August 21, 1965. In 1966, Phil and Marylin welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Melissa, into their lives, making their family complete.
Phil worked a few jobs in Terrace before joining McAlpine and Co. Chartered Accountants in 1969. Phil looked back on many wonderful memories while working there until June 2000 when he finally retired. Phil always smiled when he remembered the perfect retirement gift he received from the McAlpine team – a gas-powered golf cart, which he enjoyed for many years.
While in Terrace, Phil was active with the Terrace Badminton Club and was an avid golfer at both Spring Creek and Skeena Valley Golf Club, where he won many trophies and helped to open the new clubhouse. As well, he won prizes in Kelowna, Prince George, Smithers, and Prince Rupert. He also loved to fish and smoke his own salmon, a Davies family treat!
In 1999, Phil and Marylin moved to a beautiful new home on Kenney St. There they entertained and enjoyed many friends. They also decided to fulfill their love of travelling, heading to the United Arab Emirates to see Melissa, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, where they went every February for many years. Phil even won a golf trophy while in New Zealand!
In the fall of 2000, Phil was contacted by Jack Telstra, to work as a chairperson for Employment Insurance Appeals Board.
In 2014 Phil and Marylin decided to sell their home in Terrace and move to Courtenay to be near family. Of course, the golf cart came with him as he continued his love of golf at Sunnydale Golf Course. As well, he returned to his other joy of gardening.
In 2019, cancer started in Phil’s life. He fought hard but finally lost this battle on November 16, surrounded by family and friends.
As Phil said, “I am returning to Marylin” who passed before him February 5, 2021
Phil is survived by his daughter Melissa.Obituary-
