Sharleen Ellen Lapadat

October 5, 1941 – November 22, 2023
In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Sharleen Ellen Lapadat, on November 22 at 10am. Born on October 5, 1941, she lived a great life, to the age of 82. She is predeceased by her Parents Albert and Sallie, and her sister Marion Erdei, and is survived by her brother, Henry Green, her ex-husband Brian Lapadat, her son Curtis Lapadat, her daughter Connie Lapadat, and her two grandchildren, Thomas and Stephanie Lapadat. She was also a loving Aunt to Shaun, Monica, Glenn, and Danny.
Mom was born in the Rocky Mountains, and loved hiking in forests and mountains. Despite a fear of height, she would often hike narrow, steep trails, next to glaciers or waterfalls. She grew up in Nanaimo, and spent most of the rest of her life there. After studying at the University of Victoria, she became a teacher, touching the lives of thousands of elementary school children. She also had a heart for the poor, supporting many charities both through volunteering and financially. She was also very involved with the church, whether teaching Catechism at a younger age, or volunteering as an Usher at Pentecostal Churches. In fact, many of her holidays were spent providing relief after a natural disaster in Nicaragua, or visiting orphanages in Romania, etc. Although a very kind and humble person, she was often the recipient of various awards. In fact, she was named Woman of the Year by Essence magazine in 2000.
A memorial service will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Avenue in Nanaimo, at 11am on Saturday December 16 with a reception to follow. All that knew her are welcome to attend.
She will be greatly missed!
