The following is our latest blog entry to our 60 in 60 challenge. For those of you who missed our October column (see bit.ly/1LqaMVq) my wife, Erica, and I have embarked on a journey to lose 60 pounds (combined) in 60 weeks (combined). We have weekly online updates and monthly submissions into the Record newspaper. It’s been 11 weeks since we started.

Terry: Welcome to our last blog of 2015.
Erica: We are definitely going out with a bang!
T: Yes, Erica the Superstar. Why don’t you give our readers the good news?
E: I had my best weight loss week since we started! It was also one of our best as a team.
T: We lost 3.8 pounds last week, to bring us to 32.4 pounds total.
E: That’s more than half of the weight we need to lose in just over a third of the time.
T: More importantly, it gives us quite a buffer for Christmas week. I am sure we will use a lot of that buffe, but to lose almost 4 pounds the week before Christmas I think says a lot about our commitment and our restraint. Although I will confess when I was working late on December 22nd, there was a solitary piece of maple fudge sitting on the front counter that didn’t make it through the night.
E: It would have been irresponsible to leave one piece for the entire office to fight over!
T: Exactly. We think so much alike.
E: Except that I didn’t eat any fudge!
T: You weren’t there.
E: I guess we’ll never know what I would have done! To be honest, I no longer really enjoy eating a lot, I don’t feel good afterwards!
T: it wasn’t a lot. It was one piece.
E: I know that! In general, I think my appetite has changed for the better.
T: Mine as well.
E: I am also pleased to report that one of our dogs has really embraced our whole effort.
T: In what way?
E: She ate an entire box of chocolates I had been given as a Christmas gift. The entire box! I didn’t even get to try one!
T: Isn’t it amazing what pets will do for their owners? But I can’t believe she didn’t get sick.
E: Remember this is a dog that has also eaten a pound of butter with no ill effects.
T: Ah yes, our cast-iron-bellied canine.
E: At least I won’t have to worry about those particular calories.
T: To be honest, I am not worrying about any calories this Christmas. It’s the holidays and whatever happens, happens. I expect to have one or two weeks here and there where we gain weight. The fact that that hasn’t happened yet is pretty awesome. But I’m not going to dwell on calorie counting during the holidays.
E: You haven’t been counting calories at all since we started…
T: True, but I’m likely to exercise less in the next week.
E: Only because the gym is not open as much, right?
T: Yeah, that would be it, uh huh, that’s the ticket. I blame the CVRD for their gym schedules and my impending weight gain.
E: You did get some good running in this last week though.
T: Yes. I did 4 good runs of about 7 km each. And (drum roll), I climbed the Eiffel Tower.
E: You did what?
T: The stair-climber. It has a function where you can select famous landmarks.
E: Right. You didn’t look like you enjoyed that very much. But when we actually go to Paris, you can take the stairs and I will take the elevator!
T: I’d better get a discounted admission price for that. According to the machine at the gym, there are 2731 steps in the Eiffel Tower.
E: I will happily let you verify that.
T: I don’t see it happening unless there’s a steam room on the top level of the Eiffel Tower. That’s one of the main things that keeps me going at the gym. Knowing there’s a reward at the end.
E: I agree. Sauna, steam room, hot tub spells reward.
T: Indeed.
E: So, we finished 2015 on a strong note; a healthy 2016 is an attainable resolution.
T: Hopefully some of our readers out there will resolve to do the same.
T&E: Until next year, cheers.
