To the Editor,
Re: Mayor, councillors disregard viable offer, Letters, June 15.
I couldn’t agree more with Ilan Goldenblatt.
Why on earth would our divided 5-4 council choose to ignore CANbuild Solutions’s reasonable offer? They didn’t even discuss it.
It ticks all the boxes – the water level is reduced during winter and extreme weather events reducing the risk, and the removal and replacement of the dams is ensured without cost overruns or contingency risks to the taxpayer. It’s a no-brainer.
I also found Goldenblatt’s description of our elected council’s demeanor during the meeting as “condescending, patronizing and paternal” tactful.
If council, with all the facts in front of them, is still so divided on this, then we need to go back to the drawing board.
A 5-4 vote is not a mandate to proceed.
