The quilt and art show at the pavilion at the Rock Creek Fairgrounds last weekend was, in a word, amazing. There are about 18 members in the Rumplestilskien Fibre Arts Guild, but they managed to produce most of the 216 articles in the show. It takes a while to get that many items ready, so you can understand why they only hold a show every two or three years.
There were colourful quilts everywhere. Where there weren’t quilts there were other things with names known only to the initiated.
The pavilion boardroom had been turned into a nice quiet place to enjoy the lunch catered by Jerry Watson. As a special treat, the walls in the boardroom were hung with canvas that had been blessed by the brushes of Kettle River Arts Club.
One thing for sure though —you really wouldn’t want any LSD in your Kool-Aid when you go to a quilt show. Talk about sensory overload!

Beginning tonight and running for four performances through Saturday evening is Nana’s Naughty Knickers, a production being performed by Midway and Beyond Little Theatre. This new company has much to offer the local theatre audiences. They are under the direction of John Hibberson and the actors are budding stars from the local communities.
There are three evening performances—the Friday one has the option of a spaghetti dinner being served by the Grade 6/7 class as a field trip fundraiser. There is also a single matinee performance on Saturday afternoon.
Much like creating a quilt, it takes time to stage a play such as this, so we only get treated to a performance three or maybe four times a year.
So don’t be disappointed. Tickets are $10 per person at The Spot in Midway. Phone for reservations and info 250-449-2345.
This is another event where you would probably want to order your Kool-Aid straight up. However, there will be a cash bar at all showings for those who wish to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer to go along with their evening out on the town.

Special K isn’t about these days to listen to me whine and snivel about the little things that irk a person so you, dear reader, get to take on the task.
What has got my goat this week is the recording my cell phone gives me whenever I place a long distance call.
How does this sound for ridiculously redundant: “Please stay on the line while your call is completed.”
Did they think I was going to hang up on myself?

You may not believe this, but my cat needed a new battery the other day.
I have a fancy pet door that opens only when the animal that is trying to come in has a strong magnet attached to their collar. This trips a circuit that unlocks the flapper.
I have the thing set up so that you don’t need a magnet to go out though—only coming in. That’s a good idea because if something ever went haywire and an unwanted animal did get into through the pet door, you sure wouldn’t want to lock them in.
So there you have it—that offer of cats that I had in my column last week has been sweetened a bit. I can now advertise them as having fresh batteries recently installed.
Seriously though, I am still looking for foster home(s) for my four cats for the month of May while I get settled in Oregon. Inquire at reporter@boundarycreektimes.com.
