Coun. Neil Horner said a mouthful when he says he lives in a bit of a bubble (letters to the editor, Nov. 8).
His thinking that a daycare centre be included in the proposed senior’s facility in Qualicum Beach is the most ridiculous idea I’ve heard in a long time.
In his letter to the editor, Horner suggests that “nothing lights up a room quite so much as wee gaffers and the seniors would greatly benefit from their interaction.” Well thanks for sharing your immense wisdom and knowledge as to what we seniors need or want or could benefit from.
And before anyone jumps to the conclusion that we don’t like kids, not true. They do indeed light up a room, they are adorable, they bring a smile to the face, they bring back fond memories of kissing chubby cheeks and nuzzling warm, sweet-smelling necks, they bring on the warm fuzzies for granny and grandpa, and there’s nothing like the laughter of a child. But in the right place and at a chosen time.
I don’t think I’m alone in admitting that in my senior years I find little kids can be tiring and tiresome. We’ve raised our own, we’ve done our share of child care and all the accompanying issues, we’ve been there, done that and now we want adult time. I don’t think a desire for a little peace and quiet after a lifetime of working and raising a family is too much to ask. Isn’t that is the whole point of building homes for seniors?
