To the Editor:
My friend lost her husband several years ago. They had a joint MSP health policy and just paid the premium, based on income, monthly. After his death, she didn’t think about the MSP payments based on two people, and his high income, and continued to pay them.
Recently, she received information that she should only be paying a single premium, based on her much lower income than her late husband’s.
After getting the forms from the government agent office, she discovered that she qualified for almost $5000 in overpayment to MSP.
Widows and widowers should remember to have any joint payments readjusted to single rates.
