All business owners should vote on location

To the editor:

I wish to add my comments to the other retailers who do not want the car show to be moved to the park.

Eight signatures (actually seven as one withdrew) do not represent a majority in this town. I am sure you will concur the squeaky wheel does not deserve to spoil the opportunities for everyone else.

As the owner of the Chartreuse Moose, I was not asked to sign this selfish petition. I question why only seven signatures were able to overturn an annual event.

At the very least let’s put this to an official vote. There is still plenty of time to straighten this out.

The hotels that the visitors will stay at don’t change and redirecting from the park to Birch Avenue would not be difficult.

Birch Avenue offers everything to the locals and tourists alike. There is cover, in case it rains or is hot; there are indoor washrooms; there is food and beverage; there are deals in stores or on the sidewalk; and there are opportunities for stores to promote their wares, etc.

The purpose for bringing events to 100 Mile is to promote the town, in all aspects. It allows tourists to see there is more here than the highway.

If you move the Show & Shine to the park and intend to do a pig roast and have a couple of concessions there, people will not be inclined to leave the park and see what the town has to offer.

The person at the head of this petition also complained about the Santa Claus parade and the Little Britches parade interfering with his business – shame on you, sir.

This is what community is all about. The spirit and camaraderie and joy that this brings are worth more than what a few customers may spend in the short time the parades last.

I am inviting every business owner to come and sign a petition. It will be fair and provide both a “for and against” vote to allow the majority to be heard. Hopefully, this way the majority will decide the outcome for the car show instead of only a few.
