Notable scientists are arriving at the belief that animals share the same feelings as their human companions. What’s more, by and large, they show utter love for those who care for them.
I have just read the letter by Janet Olson, the advocate for animal rights legislation, as it concerns that poor, tethered dog Wendy (“Why is tethering not illegal in Surrey?”, The Leader, Oct. 8).
Forlorn, she stands tethered and exposed to all inclement weather and obviously lacking the human love and caring she craves. This is an utter disgrace because the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act is so pathetically weak.
If Wendy were lucky enough to live in numerous other cities and towns, her ordeal would swiftly end and the authorities could take her away and then find this poor creature a loving home.
As a dog lover living in Langley, I have admired Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts and am most disappointed that she has not had Surrey’s miserably weak cruelty to animals laws strengthened. Please, Your Worship, do something about this deplorable situation.
