Another voice calls cemetery in Courtenay ‘a sad place indeed’

Dear editor,

Another voice to register a complaint re the cemetery.

How the place has changed since I first visited the gravesite of my beloved grandson.

We could light a candle, leave mementos, have a few words, and were happy to see his friends had visited (left a coin, letter, etc.) from their travels, always remembering Shane.

Now we have to search for the gravestone, which has sunk and is overgrown, a sad place indeed. My husband and I, both in our 90s, look upon this barren cemetery and wonder, do we really want to be there for posterity?

I would be the first one of my family to be buried on Canadian soul and do wish to leave a marker so kin could trace our family in the future. That would be fruitless under present conditions!
