Dear Editor,
I attended the tea for former and present members of the Ashcroft Art Club on April 19. I’ve attended teas in art galleries in Winnipeg and Vancouver, but the Ashcroft Art Club’s tea was the nicest. I might say it was elegant.
We were waited on hand and foot. The tea was hot, and the sandwiches dainty and tasty; the pastries likewise. My thanks for a very pleasant experience, with special thanks to Carol King and Inga Krider for planning the event.
It was a thrill for me to view paintings I had done many years ago, exhibited in Angela Bandelli’s gallery window on Railway Avenue as a special exhibit linked with the Ashcroft Art Club’s 50th anniversary. I was an active member of the club for 15 years, and served for a time as the club’s president.
I was also impressed with the addition to the annual club’s art show of paintings that had been purchased in years past. I saw a portrait I painted of Hayley Roy when she was eight years old. When a friend told me she had admired “the boat paintings” I had done that were in Angela’s window gallery, I replied “I do not paint boats.” She replied “Oh yes, you do!” I went to the gallery window, and saw two watercolours I’d done when I visited Maui in 1990. Yes, there were sailboats in the pictures. So there!
All in all, I thought the club’s presentations in honour of its 50th year were a memorable success. Congratulations to you all.
