Attorney General does need to be free from political interference

I read John A. McDonald’s recent letter entitled “Attorney General should be independent of the House” and found myself in complete agreement with it.

Although it might be problematic to ensure that the A.G. is not from a major political party, Mr. McDonald’s basic ideas and his sentiment are absolutely correct. If there is one thing that the recent SNC Lavalin scandal shows us it is that the realm of partisan politics and the office of Attorney General ought to be completely separate.

The outcry and continued irregularities, corruption and resignations that have since occurred, show us that the Jody Wilson Raybould/SNC Lavalin affair is far from over. Until the office of the Attorney General is free from pressure, coercion and political interference we will never truly have an effective justice system.

Mr. McDonald has hit the nail on the head. Thanks for writing the letter.
