Ban plastic bags, the sooner the better

I was pleased to read the letter from Mona Johnston in the Nov. 18 issue.
It makes me crazy when I see so many people at the supermarket checkouts still not giving a thought to how many plastic bags their shopping is going into. Come on guys, it’s not hard to bring your own bags — be part of the solution not the problem!
Obviously the three or five cent charge for bags is not enough of a deterrent and I’m sure the stores themselves wouldn’t want to take it upon themselves to charge more for fear of losing customers, so I agree with Mona — the best way is to follow Victoria’s lead and ban them altogether, and the sooner the better!
