I am one of those grateful for every scrap of broom torn out by Broombusters.
I am lucky that my asthma is fairly mild compared to some, and that I live in Qualicum Beach, as so much work has been done here.
I think the big issue is not whether the stuff is pretty or not. Perhaps it is economic. I wonder how many northbound tourists decide not to take the southern exit of Highway 19 to Parksville because of the masses of broom. When they get to the next exit, the problem is even worse, so they may choose to keep on driving.
To me, much of Parksville is a “no-go zone” for more than a month each year. I know I can sneak into town using 19A if I must be there, but I don’t stay long. Others have mentioned similar difficulties.
Perhaps the impact of allergies on tourism should be considered as the problem seems to get worse each year in the Parksville area.
