To the editor:
It is apparent that positive re-enforcement and no consequences for negative action have not achieved their goals with some of the young men and women in our community.
Between June 24 and 26, there was a party at the west end of Green Lake adjacent Hutchinson Road. Garbage and human excrement was scattered along the lakeshore and throughout the bush.
My wife and I often bird watch at this end of Green Lake, but to our horror the landscape was changed. There were liquor bottles, garbage, blown propane tanks, burned plastic bottles, cups and cartons, broken glass, a cooler, tinfoil and 22 shells thrown everywhere.
What were they shooting – the ducks, pelicans and birds? North Green Lake Road is very close on the opposite side of the lake. Did they have other subjects in mind when shooting their 22 rifles?
This area is managed by BC Parks. There is no camping allowed here.
These open meadows and the area around Green Lake are pristine wildlife and waterfowl habitats. We spent at least 1.5 hours picking up garbage, bottles, and toilet paper, etc. It was totally disgusting. So to you who left behind your garbage and excrement for others to pick up, one day we hope you are arrested and charged for this disgusting behaviour.
