Building our new hospital on the same small congested site makes no sense at all. VIHA turned down the offer of donated land because they said the cost of servicing the property would be too much. Why?
The servicing of the existing site is close to 50 years old. They will not only have to jackhammer the paved parking lot and haul it away, they will also have to replace a lot of the servicing and bring it up to code. Will this cost less?
The existing property could be sold and moneys used to upgrade the plans for our new hospital. We must get this right for our medical professionals, our children and our grandchildren. This new hospital is going to have to last us a very long time.
VIHA says there will be little disruption to ongoing services during construction. I find that very hard to comprehend. Just trying to get anywhere close to the hospital will be a nightmare. God help anyone that may have a medical emergency during this construction period of 4-5 years.
