Summer has arrived and this coming Friday we celebrate our country’s 149 birthday.
As we look to the year ahead and get closer to Canada’s 150 birthday, now is a good time to reflect on some of the great things that we have accomplished as a nation. But we can’t rest on our laurels, as there is still much work that remains to be done.
In Ottawa, I have been proud to be working on your behalf with my colleagues to help make that better country that we strive towards, just like our parents and grandparents did to ensure that we have the society that we have today. The work of building a community and a country is truly never done, and it’s in aiming high and working towards making our country the best place it can be that we are able to pass a better future onto our children and grandchildren.
On this Canada Day, I hope that you have the chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the region that we are blessed to call home and welcome those who decide to spend their holiday with us. Whether you’ll be fishing in one of our beautiful lakes, working in your garden or enjoying the sun at the beach, I hope you have a great time with friends and family. On July 1st, I will be visiting different events in the riding and if we cross paths, please say hello and share any thoughts or concerns you may have with me.
Over the months to come we will have many important issues before us in Ottawa, such as electoral reform, affordable housing, and tackling income inequality. One of those issues is creating an effective climate action plan for Canada, and I will be hosting a town hall meeting on that subject at the Prestige Mountain Resort in Rossland at 6:30 p.m. on July 4. If you have ideas on how we should be tackling climate change in Canada, I would like to see you there to hear your views.
Hearing from you is the best way for me to be able to speak on your behalf in Ottawa and your opinions help guide me in the House of Commons. So I welcome every chance I get to hear from you and I invite you to keep sharing them with me in person, by mail or email. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at Richard.Cannings@parl.gc.ca.
We need to continue building a more sustainable society, one that makes life more affordable for families and makes Canada a fairer, greener and more prosperous country. On behalf of my family, my staff in Penticton, Castlegar and Ottawa, I wish you and your family a safe and happy Canada Day.
