We invite everyone to attend our AGM and election of officers Oct. 27 at 11:45 a.m. at Signal Point Restaurant. Our guest speaker this month is John Turner, chair of the B.C. Chamber of Commerce.
Turner is responsible for regional and provincial government relations for Spectra Energy’s Western Canada transmission and processing operations, which include four distinct businesses: B.C. Pipeline, B.C. Field Services, Midstream and Natural Gas Liquids.
A graduate of McGill University, John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and holds a professional designation from the B.C. Institute of Agrologists. He has significant experience in land-use management and community government and stakeholder relations.
Turner was recently appointed to the board of governors for the University of Northern British Columbia and currently is the incoming chair of the B.C. Chamber of Commerce. He is also chair of the United Way of Northern British Columbia and is the founding chair of the Northern Opportunities Initiative.
The Business Development Bank will also make a presentation to the 2011 Business Excellence Award recipients in recognition of their achievement and success last year.
Although we have a slate of candidates for the Board of Directors, we always welcome nominations from the floor.
On Wednesday, Nov. 2 the Chamber will host a councillor candidate forum at the Tourism Discovery Centre for the public from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The mayoralty forum will be held Thursday, Nov. 3 at 11:30 a.m. for Chamber members and guests; RSVP in advance by Oct. 31 to the Chamber.
