Concern over the “cost” that could be incurred to buy out Canadian Senators is not fully illuminated. In simple round numbers:
Not taking into account tax payer costs for support staff, office expenses, travel and business expenses, etc., etc., etc.
One hundred Canadian senators, earning $100,000 per year (minus perks) equals $10 million per year.
Over estimating golden handshake bonuses, $40,000,000
Meaning relieving Senators of duties would pay for itself in less than four years. Monies saved from this dead branch of government could be applied to the national debt, or areas of genuine need for Canadian citizens.
Abolish the Senate.
