Another “Childs Rights Day” goes by unheeded here. It was passed on Nov. 20, 1989 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. Sequence of events:
• Geneva Declaration 1924
• 1959 adopted by the UN
• 1989 by the General Assembly of the United Nations
• 1990 signed by Canada
• 1991 Ratified by Canada
• 1992 in force in Canada
Signed on to by 195 countries; only three have not ratified it. 2016 – 1924 = 92 years; that is a long road. And to date, as far as I know, only the Board of the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division has declared Nov. 20 as “Childs Rights Day”.
Prince Albert Saskatchewan leading the way. It is law in Canada, any one or group can declare it so at no cost.
